LES CAYES, Maine — The long and strange trip is over for the crew of a Maine-based ship that offloaded 200 tons of earthquake relief supplies in Haiti.
Greg Brooks, owner of the 220-foot Sea Hunter, told U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree's office on Tuesday that the crew has finished unloading the cargo.
The Sea Hunter encountered three storms after leaving Portland on Jan. 31, but that was only the beginning of the troubles. The vessel was delayed in Miami and was required to bring aboard additional licensed crew. Then there were bureaucratic troubles in Haiti.
Pingree, a Democrat representing Maine, says the crew persevered even though the journey was "longer and more difficult than anyone ever imagined."
